Glossary
Digital Printing:
Refers to a digital file transfer to an imaging device. The
digital output devices can range from a desktop inkjet printer
to an advanced variable data printing press like the HP Indigo
3000, which uses a liquid ink technology. In between are devices
like the Digimaster and Docutech laser printers that output
using dry toner. The DI series of presses use digital imaging
directly to a plate on the press. A laser imprints an image
on a plate inside to the press. It then uses traditional offset
technology to print static images, not variable.
Variable Data:
Text, numbers, graphics or images extracted from a computer
database and used to personalize one page, multiple pages,
or all pages of a document. (Enables one-to-one marketing).
Variable Data Printing:
The process of printing text and or images that may vary from
impression to impression. Often this involves the creation
of a master page with numerous variable fields that may contain
either text or images.

utilize for more effective future direct marketing campaigns
and other sales related activities.
One-to-One Marketing:

Management (DCM): Customized and stock collateral
is ordered through an easy to use web enabled interface. Corporate
maintains identity while dealers or branches easily order
collateral material customized to their location and in the
quantities desired the by the buyer. Pictures, logos, databases
and mailing list can be uploaded to be merged with templated
graphics and layouts.
Print on Demand (POD):
Producing customized printed material as needed versus preprinted
in large quantities. POD reduces waste, allows for variable
data printing, and enables targeted and one-to-one marketing.
